New MPPT Board Prototype Posted by: sjh7132
Video duration: 375 seconds This is a demonstration of a wind turbine max peak power tracking board that I designed. It has many features that should make it useful as a turbine characterization tool. The firmware in the board is very basic and I will be making improvements in the future. Java based Physics Simulation of Adaptive VAWT Blades Posted by: sjh7132
Video duration: 512 seconds This video shows some java classes that I wrote to construct models of physical systems, including masses, springs, dash-pots, ropes / rubber bands, and wings. I wrote this software in an attempt to simulate VAWTs with blades that can pivot and are balanced with a counter weight. Testing on the pole Posted by: sjh7132
Video duration: 215 seconds This is the 3rd part of testing my VAWT, this time on the pole. Power was not impressive, but I think that may be the fault of my alternator which has a huge air gap and high resistance coils. Lenz2 Blade Simulation Posted by: sjh7132
Video duration: 274 seconds This is an OpenFOAM simulation of a Lenz2 blade. The solver is IcoDyMFoam. The blade is 18" from the center and is rotating at 60 RPM. The wind is 15 MPH (6.7 m/s). The torques shown are for a 1.0 cm long blade. So multiply by 100 for a meter long blade. Yet another HAWT Posted by: sjh7132
Video duration: 295 seconds Information about yet another one of my wind experiments. This is a 7ft dia HAWT. Goals were to make it very discrete and make it tougher than my last one. Efficiency is fairly low and hasn't been measured carefully. I estimate its output to be 40-50W (mechanical energy) which makes it about 15-20% efficient. Video duration: 218 seconds Testing of a small wind turbine with PVC blades and a home made alternator. The blades are cut from 3" PVC and are 1ft long plus 4 inches to mount it to the hub. The alternator uses 12 magnets and 9 coils, 3 coils on each phase. @rikkiesix w. Yes the people on? the wwVAWT.net suggested that I make a triangle between blades and that might help.

I think you are correct on the pole taking up a? lot of the energy. Maybe try something a little more rigged and you will likely improve your speed. Maybe by a lot. Nice =)

cool?

What did you use to connect the blades to the generator. Maybe you should use some connections inbetween every arm. You can do this at the top side. Underneat you can't because the generator is on that side. Less woblle means more power. I 'm pretty sure thats where most of your power is lost. The tighter you make your structure the better it will perform. Greetings from Belgium and i wish you good luck. If you have more questions about this you can sent me a private message? and i'l try to help.
