In MY opinion it's pointless to trade verbal barbs back and forth over who is the better? author or what's the better series or book. Your comparing apples to oranges. Instead of bashing who's is better, I think both the authors and the readers would be better served if fans would simply say hey if you like Jordon's WoT then try "x", it's fantastic!

@BaileyForLife I think a live action movie is a great idea. Or even a series. They made a TV Series out of the Vampire Diaries & Game of Thrones. But not CGI -- that could prevent viewers from really getting into it. Whenever you adapt a book for something, details will be skipped. It's a fact of life; everything is not SUPER important. I'm excited for a movie, but a TV series would be? fun (provided it's live action. The only problem with this is that TV shows usually have a smaller budget...

I can't believe that they are going to try and make a live action movie. If you want to do Robert Jordan justice they need to make this a CG animated TV series. I love a lot of book series. To be honest, the authors, when I actually see or hear them, disappoint me most of the time. Either they disagree with my world view, hate on something I cherish, or just seem? so sure of themselves it irritates me. Robert Jordan? He did none of those things. Every interview I've seen of him has shown him to be a remarkable man of much intelligence. My only regret is that, while I have now read the entire series, I didn't start before his time game. @Absconditious J.K.Rowling and Robert Jordan and both GREAT Authors and they both Wrote what they wanted to write. J.K.Rowling always emphasised that what's written is what she wants and she wrote Deathly Hallows epilogue before even writing book five (the stories were planned prior the writing of book 1) so it is? not true that she wrote to please the crowd. And No I am not hating here, I like both authors (Rowling and Jordan ... and of course Tolkien :) ).

I guess considering that only 10% of a given population is gay at all...it makes sense to me that? perhaps the main storyline doesn't involve any gay characters, or that the main characters would themselves be heterosexual. There are openly female gay characters (Galina Casban) and experimental/situational gay characters (pillow friends) but all in all as a gay man, I can't see how a gay character would make the WOT better.

but as an author you have to build characters that will forward your storyline. A gay character in the Wheel of Time would distract and be unnecessary because the story isn't about peoples' sexuality or stuff. There's romance obviously but even that is connected to prophecy, so having a gay character would need to forward the story somehow and it just doesn't. I do wish there were more gay characters in fantasy, but I? wasn't disappointed that WOT didn't have a focus on it.

the majority of the people in this world ARE hetero, so not every story lends itself to gay storylines. Sometimes the story just doesn't really give way for a gay character. What would the purpose of a gay character be in The Wheel of Time anyway? None of the prophecies say Rand has to fall in love with another guy or whatever. I just think Jordan honoured gay people by saying it was an ideal world, but the story didn't give way? to a gay character is all.

I haven't comet yet to any gay mentioning in the books, just finished reading the first one (which i liked quite a lot); but it seems things will be even more interesting in the other books. :P By the way, at least in the? first book, there were some parts you actually got the feeling that Mat might not mind screwing around with Rand. Anyway, i like the way rober jordan writes.

@byrobyro I think they hired someone else because the story was so amazing and so many people NEEDED to know how it ends, that they couldnt just leave? it. James (Robert) wouldnt have wanted that. He even voice recorded how the book would end so that another author COULD finish it after he passed. I would have been very upset if they had just left us without telling us how it ends. The money had nothing to do with finishing the book, he stressed to his wife that it needed to be finished.

In this world, which is all about money, it has to be finished by an inferior author (No slight against Brandon, but he aint no Robert Jordan). I can't really tell you how to have your world open up to you becuase...well I? don't really know. Its different for every body. For some it comes at the snap of their fingers, for others its like playing with legos, they must let it build over time with much trial and error (I myself fall into the latter catogory). Robert Jorden himself said that the WOT built itself over a period of many years. Theres nothing absolute about writing, Go with what works for you. And you're welcome.

I have just begun to read up on Norse mythology and have asked for books on Medieval Times and Celtic Religions. About the Cliche thing I would have to disagree, though appreciate the advice. What I feel I must do in order to achieve my dreams is focus on something never before thought up. Which I think I have begun to do. And about allowing my world to open up to me, how do I do that? heres my advice. Firstly read and write a lot. Seriously, read everything you? can get your hands on in all fields. Secondly, dont worry about clichés while youre writing the first draft, if you do, it will hold you back and youll never get anything thing done. Weeding out clichés is what revision is for. Thirdly, as some have already said, let your world open itself up to you. Think of writing as an undiscovered country and you are the explorer, jotting things down as you see them.

I really plan to avoid anything Terry Goodkind had created, or copied. No. I enjoyed his? books as well, though I too grew out of them and realized how good Robert Jordan was. The only thing about this, "Ayn Rand," stuff, is that Richard is a really cool character, just not for a main character. The main Protagonist needs to have flaws, Richard does not. I have been working on the worlds history for some time now. But my world isn't that unique and not with no cliche, that's hard to make. My favorite author of all time. Yes, there are probably more skilled writers with more complex plots (i.e. Erikson) newly arrived on the scene but Robert Jordan was a pioneer of the modern epic. Not to mention I believe that there will always be a part of my writing style that is Jordanesque, that shows clearly his influence. Very nice work. Only thing I could fault was Egwene not having blonde hair, but the pictures really captured a lot of the characters. I really liked the depictions of Min and Logain, spot on. Would loved to have seen Verin included, she is one of the most interesting and underrated? characters in the story.

I once wrote a fan letter to Mr Jordan, and I told him how much I loved his work, (I think he was just starting book 6), and then I said this: " I suppose people are telling you that you should finish it in the next? couple of volumes, but I say to heck with that. You have actually succeeded in creating a world as great as Tolkien - one that is a little more sophisticated . -Take your time". Of course, now I am sick I said that.

I'm currently on book 10, and as a? series i dont think its a masterpiece at all. The first four books were very exciting and the fifth wasn't bad either, but six onwards has been a slippery slope into blandness to be honest. The 10th book is so far proving to be the worst one yet. I'm hoping the eleventh book onwards is an improvement. Ive heard the latest one is very good

Rabid fans eh, ignore the fanboys or girls complaining and take comfort that the final? volumes of Robert Jordan's magnum opus will be completed in just two years. The series has impressed me over the years, i got to read the books Robert Jordan's scope and imagination as a writer is the very type of writer i aspire to be. It's bad i only found out he died two years after but RIP James Oliver Rigney AKA Robert Jordan for creating a series of equal quality to Tolkien.

Brandon Sanderson explained why book twelve is going to be three parts on his website. To sum it up, Tor wanted him to wrap up the whole series in 250,000 words. And the more he wrote, the more he realized he couldn't get away with any less than 800,000 words. To write that much, revise it as a whole, and publish it as a whole, we wouldn't see it before 2012. And it would take up a whole shelf. This way we get one book every(hopefully) November for the next three? years.

I kinda? agree, im on my second reading of the books and i love them but the length is kinda ridiculous. I recomend this seris to friends and they always say its just way too long. Making the last book to 3 is just dragging this seris on and i have a feeling its going loose potential fan base because of it. 12 books is enough please just finish it lol.

You might be right about? Jordan, I don't know, but it pisses me off when people jump Sanderson's ass over the length of the final entry. First of all, he just came into this mess recently. Secondly, he isn't getting paid any more money than was already agreed upon just because the last book was split into three, and thirdly, he just wants to do right by the story and the fans. Besides, the last three are going to be released in an omnibus edition in the end, so just wait and buy that version.

You're a joke. The only thing that would be best served by this colossal outrage (20 years and 14 books is both collosal and outrageous)? is the publishers' bottom line. REVENUE. That's it. It's called cupidity (some may say commercial reailty). Even Jordan himself fell victim to this money monster (the series was stretched from 6 books to 12 not to enhance the story but to cash in on its success, which isn't art but a commercial crime). It's definitely a sad/amazing story all wrapped up in too short of a lifetime. I just finished book 6. I have been keeping my eye on the last book and the way it's being handled from RJ's wife, publisher, and author. There's a lot of? tender loving care going into the creation of it. From what I could find, RJ wrote the last 50k words and left audio and notes. While not as good as what he would have done, I have no doubt it will be a great tribute and conclusion to his life's work.
