I hate to be the nerd of the group but the first death star's super laser took i think about 30 mins to recharg so even if they did blow up the gas giant it would take 30 more mins to fire the laser and to all those people saying just shoot through it the magnetic field and gravity would disrupt the laser and they wouldn't get a clean shot off
