Hey im going to purchase this camera for beauty vlogging on youtube I will only be recording with natural sunlight from a windows inside, will be using a tripod, and will about 2 feet from the lens. Problem is i cant decide what lens is best for me. I really want it to be good at focusing on sorta up close. I also want it to be good with pictures and vlogging outside while moving. Doesnt have to be the cheapest one but if thats the best option for be then okay. Just let me know what you think!?

I own a nikon d3100, and very happy with it; but to you guys asking how to get a better resolute video out of their camera it is easy; lens, lens and lens......this video was shot using three different lens to perfect each clip/scene....now add up those lens? plus the camera, and you too can acheive great results. I know a guy whos one lens cost him five times the camera he puts it on, and people still ask him what kind of camera he uses to get that great resolution; torchidman productions.

@Imsoowicked 1-You need to keep the switch? on the lens to "AF" and press the shutter button halfway down and it will automatically focus. But if you press it all the way down, it will take a snapshot. It is personally much easier for me to focus manually during video, it's too noisy and doesn't work very great in automatic.

Not entirely sure why people are complaining about him not putting money in. This was a test of the ISO on the camera, one of the best ones I've seen. @us14027 No, not every long lens allows for Macro focusing. That's a specific feature certain lenses have. Most long lenses, in fact, don't allow for Macro focusing. So you have look for lenses with this option. There are some prime lenses? that allow for macro focus too. The trick is how the glass for such lenses allows for an object to be quite close to the lens but still in focus. Normal lenses usually need about two feet or more. Macro lets you get much closer. Does that help?

@us14027 Thank you! It's been a year now since I shot this test footage. So I can't say for sure what the exact settings were for specific shots. With this Sigma 70-300mm lens, to use Macro focus you have to be between 200 and 300mm. I am also pretty? sure I was a 5.6f-stop for all of this, as that is as wide as the lens opens at 300. But due to the sheer amount of optical compression when using such a long lens, the DoF is still incredibly small (shallow). Thanks for watching!

It's just a matter of picking up a lens with Macro capabilities (the ability to focus on items that are quite close to the lens), and then? just carefully playing with focus. In this case, I am using the Sigma 70-300mm with a macro switch that allows me to focus on close items when I'm in the 200 to 300mm range.The rest you pick up with hands on experience.

@SchussFilms You can get a raynox dcr 250 that fits on the end of your lens? possibly if its the right size so your not totally without hope. Look up raynox dcr on google and on here to get an idea. It onlt fits lenses from 52-67mm front filter adaptor. If your camera has a screw thread for a filter you can get step up step down rings to make it fit though.

@SchussFilms The Lumix DMC-FZ40K is NOT a DSLR with a interchangeable lenses. So unfortunately, if you get that camera, you're stuck with the lens build on to it. If you really are wanting to get a camera that does good stills and video and gives you options for lenses, I would strongly encourage you to look at the Canon T3i or 60D. You'll need to use Canon or Canon compatible? lenses (EF mount), but you will have a much better image quality and flexibility. What quality of HD does the Lumix do?

@kongkiakeng No, the Sigma 70-300mm does not have IS. That's one disadvantage. But if it had IS it would also cost significantly? more money. So, yeah, had to make that choice when I got it. It's otherwise a good lens. But if you need IS, then yeah, best to save up and go for the Canon L series. But those are thousands, way more than the camera itself. So, something to keep in mind too.

@MikelCulchie ya i shoot some short stuff maybe twenty minutes in length every once ina while but usually we story board real good because we use miniDV right now? so normally what we shoot is never more than twice as long as the production, we may shoot 40 minutes for every twenty we use, of course it would be nice to not worry about it which is why i'm going for the dslr plus the price point to features is better than the canon vixia hfs20 i was looking at.

@KingofComputing I see what you're going for here. If that works for you, than go for it. I shoot video professionally. So when I'm out shooting, it's for an 8 or 10 or 12 hour day where I'm often generating 3 to 7 hours of footage easily in a day. And often times that footage has to go to drives that leave set and go right to an editor. So I? make sure to have MacBook Pro to do on-set DIT work. But if you're only ever going to shoot an hour or two, a couple large SD cards should do.
