@vinnymackdx I know this is kinda old, and I'm sure someone has already come up? with a better way by now, but what I do, it's kinda extra work.... But I crop out a part of my picture, and save it into a separate file (or open a new image, don't have to save it... Zoom in, copy it to a new image and resize it... Edit it there, recopy and paste it back... ?

@tilandal: I agree. Why would anyone want to edit a photo when it's extra small? Doesn't make sense. I have figured out that you can make it a little bigger by dragging bottom corner of the window to make the window bigger. The image gets a little bigger, but the resolution is poor and the image is still smaller than the original. Hopefully this is? a feature they fix in the next version of Gimp.

I find it ridiculous that you have? to work in that tiny windows instead of the whole rest of the screen. You can't even see the radius the effect is applied to or zoom in to do detailed work.

Ctrl+Shift+X brings up Liquify. Really cool feature. Very useful if? you use it right. Magazines use it to make models looked skinnier and whatnot.

the easier is....do the toggle quick mask tool that looks like a square in the end on the picture window then turn the forground colours from black to white to white and black and dickolour the hair from? the red mask by a fuzzy brush , and if you mess up invert the forground colours again :) and colour it with the mask , then when you r done click on the tool again and there you have it automaticly selected :)
